Here is a handy search tool that will let users search your site and display the
results with links to the pages in your site. The results are displayed in a box
right on this page so it does not need to bring up a separate page in Google etc.
Once someone has found your site it would be good to be able to search it. Here is
an example search box on this site:
The number one goal is to get people to your site and to get them to contact you
if you are selling a product or service. So coming up at the top of Google Search
is a requirement. We have had success at getting sites to show up in Google Search
by following these guidelines:
- Use of page names that really hone in on your product or service and location.
- Using standard HTML text that search engines can read rather than picture representations
of text.
- Developing page content that accurately describes what you do or your message. The
content throughout the site should use key words that the user is likely to enter
as search criteria and it should be key words that are consistent with the content.
Trying to force the search engines to pick up key words by their use out of context
or by creating dozens of meta tags will probably do more harm than good. So we would
start by coming up with various search phrases the user is likely to enter and then
build the content around that.
- We can set up Google Analytics to get statistics and demographics on how people are
finding your site.
- Creating links on other web pages back to your site. An easy way to get links to
your site is to put them on YouTube videos and Facebook pages.
- Since you will create a Facebook page for your organization you can use Facebook
advertising to get ‘friends’ of your organization. You will have to pay for these
but can turn the ads on and off when needed. Then every time you post some ‘news’
on that page all your Facebook freinds will be informed and reminded of your web
site. I have had good results generating many Facebook page friends quickly especially
with entertainment or arts organizations.
- Use Google Ads to draw people to your site. You will pay whenever someone clicks
a Google Ad and gets to your site.
- Use of a pleasing color scheme or one that ‘fits’ your organization. This will give
a first impression that says the site is professional and up to date. Color schemes
can be quickly changed and applied to the whole site rather than page by page so
different schemes can be tried out to gather feedback in your organization.
